Jane Addams Child Welfare Traineeship Project
Traineeship Requirements

Course Work

No additional course work is required. However, students will be required to select Advanced Child Welfare Practice as their elective in the fall semester. The Advanced Child Welfare Practice elective will incorporate curriculum material from the DCFS core caseworker training, which will fulfill the training requirement for students who accept employment from DCFS or affiliated private agencies following graduation. In the spring semester, students will enroll in Research with Children and Families as their research option and choose from among five courses as their elective.

Specialized Field Placement

Students will complete placements in a specially developed field unit that will provide intensive training that reinforces the curriculum and provides opportunities for students to develop and practice their skills. Field units are currently available in DCFS and two affiliated private child welfare agencies, ChildServ and Children's Home and Aid. All field requirements will remain the same in these settings
